I began my photography adventures two decades ago, using a simple digital camera. Documenting my son's youth football matches to allow my disabled dad to see him in action. My lad progressed through the age groups, and my skillset and equipment improved. In 2016, I decided to pursue photography at a higher level, returning to education at 37 years old. NQ, HNC, and HND qualifications were completed during my three years at New College Lanarkshire. Receiving my Bachelor of Arts degree in professional photography at Robert Gordon University in June 2020.
Maybe it's that kid who never got to be a professional sports star, but the sheer thrill of being involved in sports photography is such a buzz and privilege. I love freezing the action of a pulsating football match or a hard-fought battle during a game of rugby.
While capturing sports images was my starting block in photography, I wanted to be considered more than just a match photographer. Utilising four years in higher education studying my trade, I embraced all genres of photography as I looked to understand the medium. I won awards for my Still Life and portraiture work, as well as sports-based images, all while undertaking my studies. I work well in any studio environment, at any location, and in any weather conditions. Over the years I have been proud to photograph many different events, weddings and parties.
Over the years, I have conducted extensive research into my chosen field. I take inspiration from the works of skilled photographers such as James Cannon and Marc Aspland. However, most of my research into the demands of the industry has heavily featured the work of the SNS group and their skilled team of photographers. Outwith sports, I have enjoyed researching the works of David Bailey and his iconic 60's 70's perspective of the Who's Who of UK pop culture.
